Don't Fear Failure A bad turn can point you in the right direction. Don't Fear Failure A bad turn can point you in the right direction. BY Robert Kiyosaki | November 14, 2008| 0 inShare0 One of the reasons so many people don't become entrepreneurs is because they're afraid of failing. They're afraid of making mistakes. They're afraid of losing money. But if people can't overcome these psychological fears, they'd be better off keeping their day jobs. In the early 1980s, when my first major business failed, I thought I was the stupidest person in the world. Being flat broke and getting calls from creditors made me wish I had never wanted to be an entrepreneur. I even wanted my old job back. But instead of condemning me for failing, my rich dad gave me one of life's most important lessons: "You're fortunate to have failed. You now have the opportunity to learn how to turn bad luck into good luck. If you can do that, you'll have a life of more and more good luck." Here are three key points for turning bad luck into good luck: 1. Don't blame. When my rich dad asked me what went wrong, the first thing I did was blame my partners and the economy. He immediately said, "Never blame anyone for your failures." "But it was their fault," I replied. Shaking his head, my rich dad said, "If you blame someone else, you'll never learn from your mistake. If you blame, you give your power away." Remember, there are no victims--only volunteers. And you volunteered to become an entrepreneur. 2. Meet new partners. My rich dad said, "In every bad deal, I have always met good people. Some became new partners." Still hating two of my partners, it was hard for me to understand this statement, yet I took my rich dad's advice and began sifting through the wreckage. Today, one of my best friends came from that business fiasco. In the ruins of other business failures, I met my current partner in real estate and another partner in my franchise business. If not for the failures, I wouldn't have met those fellow entrepreneurs and gone on to make millions of dollars with them. 3. Study your mistakes. "Mistakes are priceless," my rich dad told me. "Study them, learn and profit from them." Again, this lesson was hard to hear. Being angry and broke, I wanted to run from my mistakes. But rather than run from my failure, I went back to my factory, studied my mistakes and resurrected the business. This is how I turn bad luck into good luck. Remember, making mistakes and becoming smarter is the job of an entrepreneur; not making mistakes is the job of an employee. Perfect Competition 30 27 17 Email 79 Share In competitive markets there are: 1. Many buyers and sellers - individual firms have little effect on the price. 2. Goods offered are very similar - demand is very elastic for individual firms. 3. Firms can freely enter or exit the industry - no substantial barriers to entry. Competitive firms have no market power. Recall that businesses are trying to maximize profits, and Profit = Total Revenue (TR) - Total Cost (TC). Revenue in a Competitive Business Businesses in competitive markets take the market price (P) as given (price takers). How much does the business receive for a typical unit is known as the "average revenue" (AR) and is equal to TR/Q = (P x Q)/Q = Price. So average revenue is equal to price, and is constant. How much additional revenue does the firm get if it sells one additional unit? To answer this question, we take a look at "marginal revenue" (MR) which is equal to the change in TR divided by the change in quantity. Note that this too is equal to price, so the marginal revenue is constant as well, and is equal to average revenue. Profit Maximization To maximize profit, we need to know the revenue and costs of the business. Profit is maximized when marginal revenue = marginal cost, and marginal cost is rising. To see why, recall that marginal revenue is the additional revenue from 1 additional unit. Marginal cost is the additional cost from 1 additional unit. When MR > MC, revenue is increasing faster than costs and the firm should increase production. When MR < MC, revenue from the additional unit is less than additional cost, and the firm should decrease production. As such, A firm maximizes profits when MR = MC. So what happens to output at various prices? Since MC is upward sloping, as price increases, quantity produced will increase too. As price falls, quantity produced falls. In each case, the marginal cost curve determines how much the firm is willing to produce at each price, so it translates into the supply curve. Shutting Down a Company (temporary) A company is considered to have shut down, if it temporary ceases production but keeps fixed capital. A company has exit the industry when it has made a permanent decision to leave the industry. The decision to temporarily shut down a business depends on a few factors. Recall that ATC = AVC + AFC. So average fixed cost is the vertical distance between average variable cost and average total cost. Now if a business shuts down, its total revenue becomes zero, and its total cost equals the fixed cost. So the company should continue producing its product, as long as it covers its variable costs. This way, total revenue is greater than total variable cost, because losses are then less than TFC. Basically, shut down when P (AR = MR) < AVC, to minimize the losses and so the company's short-run supply curve = MC curve above AVC. The firm therefore produces where profit equals marginal cost. Another way to put this is that sunk costs are sunk. Fixed costs are sunk, and therefore cannot be recovered by shutting down in the short run. The decision to continue producing depends on revenues and variable costs. If average revenue is greater than average variable cost, then the business should continue to produce. It is rational to continue producing, so long as AVC < P < ATC. When to Leave An Industry (permanent) A business should leave the industry when revenue is less than cost of operating in the long run. In other words, exit if total revenue is less than total cost (P < ATC). In competitive markets, a company will make zero economic profits in the long run. If companies are making more than zero economic profits, it will encourage other firms to enter the industry to share in these profits. In other words, enter if total revenue is greater than total cost (P > AC). If companies are making zero economic profits, there is no entry and no exit, which is a long run condition. 4 Tips to Becoming an Outrageously Cool Entrepreneur

The reason why I am talking about being an entrepreneur is that we are actually in car heading up to Saint Louis and I am going to meet David Siteman Garland who has the website The Rise to The Top. He has awesome video blog, he has got some great shows, and is a soon to be an author. He just really inspired me which is obvious since we are on the way to Saint Louis on a Wednesday. So I am taking time of work but I am going to meet him and get inspired by him and some of the people he has been inspired by. I am going to share some of my tips and some of my experiences of being an entrepreneur and hope that you get something out of it.
1. Follow Your Passion (and mean it)

So the first tip that I will share with you is that if you want to be an entrepreneur, you have to follow your passion. You have to find out what that is. For me, I have been a numbers guy for pretty much of my life so it is natural fit to get into investments.

I did not consider myself to be an entrepreneur until ‘O7 and when I left my previous firm and me and 3 others started Alliance Investment Planning Group. That was my first taste of being an entrepreneur. Then I started my blog Goodfinancialcents.com and right now I am also working on my book and some of other projects. That first step really gave me the entrepreneur bug. If you don’t want to do numbers is not your thing then you don’t need to be in my profession. You need to find out what your passion is, follow your passion and just crush it. You might start down path and maybe your path changes. That’s OK. That is the beauty of being an entrepreneur. You have to shift and be agile enough to move on to the next thing.
2. Dive Right In

The second step that I will say is dive right in. I have a lot of people, I talked to them that if they want to be an entrepreneur?

They talk about being an entrepreneur and all they do is just talk. If you are going to do it, you can talk about that all day long but until you actually take that first step, until you put yourself out there, you will never going to know what it is and if you have what it takes. That was with us when we stepped out and started our own firm. It was a huge risk. We had a big name behind us and we just let that go.

We took a huge step.

I was lucky in the sense that I had a good client base already but it did not mean that it had to follow me. So that was a huge risk and one of the best risk that I have taken.

Another risk was I put myself with the blog. I read an article in early part of O8 about blogging and how you need to have a blog. I have no idea what a blog was. I am sure if you read this at the site. My interpretation of blog was getting on my space and hearing hip hop music and looking pictures of people, I really did not get it. I started just reading and researching and looking at blogs. It took me months to figure out. Lot of late nights, giving some time from weekends to learn the blog and just don’t ride in. Have I not done it, I still not be talking about it. Here it is almost two years later, the blog is an awesome thing. First thing is follow your passion and second thing is dive right in.
3. Cut Out The Crap

Third thing is cut out the crap. What I mean by this was that I was listening to a podcast of someone that was a consulting another individual that wanted to be an entrepreneur. They could never set up the time because the guy, the “wannabe” entrepreneur, could not schedule the time because he did not want to miss the show Wipeout. He couldn’t schedule his consulting session to take him to the next level because he couldn’t workout the time that didn’t allow him to miss Wipeout. Really?

If you are an entrepreneur (or want to become one), you can miss Wipeout. So cut out the crap. If you watch hours of reality television per week, cut it out. Any other noise, just cut it out because this is your dream, this is your passion. If you really want to do it then you need to focus 150% or 1050% whatever, put everything into it and that’s the way that you grow. That’s the way you build your dream and your vision.
4. Support Please

Last thing I say is all about the support system. Two things. One is having an awesome spouse that is going to support you throughout the whole process. Somebody holding a video cam while you are a driving a car is awesome. So having that to support you and motivate you and sometime may be even second guess and ask, “hey is that a really a good idea?’ This may be that your driving force to push it hard and to really show that person that YES this is my vision and this is my dream and I’m going pull it off no matter what it takes.

The other thing is to surround yourself by people who have similar drive and that have similar vision. If you have friends who are always just complaining about having hard times to make ends meet but then they are not doing anything about it. I am not saying to cut them out but just cut and reduce that time because if you go out and you start showing them that hey this is me, and you are fired up and super motivated eventually I hope that you will be contagious.

Cut these people out of your life and have people that have the similar vision. That is one of the reason that I am heading towards Saint Louis to meet David Siteman Garland. I met him on twitter. This guy got such huge followers in a short period of time. This guy knows what is going on. I am going there and hope that I will meet some great people that have similar vision, similar drive and similar passion. So find those people. I had the hardest time finding people locally, I will say that I found more lately. If you are having hard time finding someone locally that have same vision, same drive then head online. Start a blog, go on twitter, find people that have similar interest you do and you will be amazed. David is one of the 100 people I found online that just have “it”.
Entrepreneur Recap

So just as a recap if you really want to become an entrepreneur to make your dream your vision blossom what you want it to see. Number 1 is find your passion, find what it is that gets you going because if it is your passion it will not be a job, It will be a hobby a fun hobby. Number two is dive right in. Just dive right in and then you learn so much. With blogging, I did not know anything about it but I just said that I am going to do it and I am going to figure it out as I go. Sure enough I did that. There were a lot of trials but it all worked out. Number three is cut out the crap. Cut out television, cut out things, the basic takeaways of putting time and energies to focus. Last thing is have a good support system. So this is Jeff Rose goodfinancialcents.com. Thanks for bearing with us and I hope that you enjoyed it.

Social Entepeneurship

What is Social Entepeneurship

The concept is defined differently by different people and organizations. SBIG defines social entrepreneurship as an emerging business paradigm that bridges the non profit and for profit business models with principles that historically have defined what entrepreneurs do. This hybrid model of doing business matches social vision with sustainable profit in a business plan with two bottom line objectives; financial viability apart from reliance on external support, and a clear social mission that can be quantified and measured in financial terms. We focus on the earned income aspects of what constitutes social entrepreneurship.

Many people use the word “entrepreneur” to mean someone who owns or starts a business, but entrepreneurs are more than business owners or people who start businesses. Being an entrepreneur indicates that a need in the market is being serviced through some combination of innovation, the introduction of new technologies or the application of old technology in a different way not being done previously. It means new ways of thinking about and solving old problems through a variety of means; manufacturing, marketing, sales, merging networks and resources etc… Entrepreneurs not only develop new ways of doing things to solve market needs, they also take advantage of change and use it as a means to develop opportunity. Entrepreneurs leverage change to create opportunities for profit. Social entrepreneurs do so with a social mission in mind as well as a financial one.

Entrepreneurs are known for taking risks. But successful entrepreneurs are people who are good at managing risk downward. In other words, they accept risk but they do so by trying to minimize it as much as possible. Taken together, these characteristics of entrepreneurship and the creation of business models that generate earned income in support of a social objective, forms the basis for what we now refer to as “social entrepreneurship”.

What’s the difference between social entrepreneurship and social enterprise?

“Social enterprise” is a term often used in connection with social entrepreneurship and sometimes used interchangeably with it. The term describes a broader market than that made up by social entrepreneurs however. Social enterprise can be used to describe any kind of business entity or activity that includes a social mission. However social enterprise businesses do not have to be entrepreneurial in nature, meaning they don’t have to be innovative or involve new applications of old methods or technologies. Social enterprise businesses also don’t have to generate their own earned income. They can rely on grants or other forms of outside financial support. All social entrepreneurs are engaged in social enterprise, but not all social enterprise business ventures involve entrepreneurship.

Why is it important to differentiate between social entrepreneurs and other forms of social enterprise business such as traditional non profit organizations?

Non profit organizations have traditionally been supported by outside financial partners such as philanthropic foundations, government programs or corporate sponsors. Social entrepreneurship emphasizes a financially autonomous business model that makes revenue dependent on the organization itself rather than outside financiers. There are multiple reasons why SBIG believes this is a vital distinction. Non profit organizations that depend on external revenue are frequently unable to maintain their organization’s autonomy in terms of their ability to control their own mission functions because funding partners often define how that mission is to be interpreted and supported. Fund raising has become the primary activity for many non profits, distracting organizational directors from their core mission and causing boards of directors to increasingly be built with an eye towards gaining access to potential financial partners rather than establishing expertise in the field.

SBIG believes that the traditional non profit business model cannot survive the changes our society is undergoing in the long term. Shrinking resource availability do to the aging and downsizing of the American workforce, increasing competition for those resources and an expanding need growing in direct response to the effects of changing demographics and the effects of globalization make social entrepreneurship the most strategically promising answer to these problems.

Strategi Pasar Lokal
By Bali SEO on Feb 01, 2010 in SEO

Potensi pencarian lokal terus berkembang.
